The classical music lovers of the city had a mass musical treat by the first lady santoor player of the country Shruti Adhikari. Shruti performed splendidly at Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) here on Sunday.
The cultural event was organised by Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth (SPIC MACAY) Bhopal chapter. The event was organised under the series of cultural performances ‘Virasaat’. Under this series, SPIC MACAY invites artists from across the country to perform before the youngsters of the city.
To begin with the event, she interacted with the students and faculty members of IIFM. she detailed about Santoor and how she began playing it. Santoor is rare musical instruments of Kashmir and to find a female artist playing on this is rarest. Shruti Adhikari hails from Bhopal, is a dedicated Santoor player who displays remarkable genius. She is a disciple of Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
She is one of the most brilliant artists of Santoor. She has polished her art by strenuous training and riyaz and has won appreciation from audience all over the country.
She began her performance with Raag Dhani. Then she played Alap Jod, Jhala, followed with bandish in Rupak Taal and Ten Taal. She wrapped up her performance with beautiful Pahadi Dhun. SShruti was accompanied by Manoj Patidar on Tabla.
It was really a great pleasure for the music lovers and especially the youngsteres listening to her performance live in a concert. The audiences were spellbound as she reached the zenith of expression during her performance.
As she begins playing the different ragas, her endeavour has always been cherished by the audiences as she makes melodious magic when she hit the strings of the santoor. Her commitment and enthusiasm towards the instrument and classical music made the classical music lovers appreciate her talent.
