13:28(IST)

FOUR! Victory for India, Desai finishes it off with a boundary. Indians are celebrating now and they deserve to. Dominant right throughout the tournament and capping it off in sensational style. India win by 8 wickets. Spare a thought for Rahul Dravid, who had a disastrous World Cup in 2007, where India were knocked out in the first round under his captaincy. He has played a stellar role in developing these kids into world beaters!

13:23(IST)

100! What an innings this has been from Manjot Kalra, he has taken the bull by its horns and delivered in style. All eyes were on Shaw and Gill, but Kalra has had a good tournament as well and he caps it with a ton in the final. India need just 3 more to win.

13:21(IST)

Tight over from Uppal, concedes just 1 run. India need 5 more runs to win, Desai on strike and Manjot still playing on 99!

13:19(IST)

Kalra has been stuck on 99 for a while, and Desai has been dealing in boundaries! He takes a single and India need just 6 runs, willl Manjot be stranded here on 99?

13:13(IST)

Desai doing his bit now, getting a couple of boundaries and quickly moving into the 30s. India cross 200 and need just 14 runs more to win.

13:10(IST)

Good over for India, 8 runs coming off it. Desai getting a fine boundary in that over. India need just 21 more runs to seal a memorable victory here.

13:07(IST)

Drinks being taken here, India require just 29 more runs while Kalra needs 5 runs to reach a memorable ton. Mere formalities left it seems here, India 188/2 after 34 overs.

13:03(IST)

Pope, who was expected to be a key bowler for Australia has been tackled really well by the Indians here, not allowing him to settle at all. India need 32 more and are 185/2

12:57(IST)

Kalra certainly in no mood to let the Aussies get away here, he is still eyeing boundaries and getting them. Moves to 89 and India need 41 more runs to win here. They are 176/2

12:52(IST)

Uppal has certainly been the standout bowler for Australia, he is not afraid to give it some air but he needs some support. India need less than 50 now, and are 171/2

12:49(IST)

SIX! Absolutely hammered from Kalra, its a looping full toss from Pope and Kalra takes it on the full, clears his front leg and heaves it over the cow corner. He moves into the 80s here, India 165/2 here after 29 overs.

12:46(IST)

The luck too seems to be favouring India, Desai looksto sweep one and manages to get a top edge. Brilliant effort by McSweeney, running behind and diving for the ball. Luckily for India, it falls away from the fielders. India 156/2

12:43(IST)

Desai throws his bat at a wide one and gets an outside edge, ball beats the chasing third man fielder and goes to the boundary. India closing in here, they are 155/2 and need 62 runs more to win here.

12:39(IST)

FOUR! Manjot crunches another boundary, gets some room and just lifts it over the point fielder for a boundary. It was aerial and that had Shaw worried in the dressing room. India are 149/2

12:36(IST)

Halfway into the innings, and India are 144/2. Desai certainly not looking the most confident at the moment, importantly for India, Kalra is still out there. He is certainly the key as far as the chase is concerned.

12:29(IST)

Merlo concedes 5 runs as Desai joins Manjot, India still need 78 runs at the moment. They will need Manjot to carry on through till the end. If he departs, then Oz could be back in this one

12:22(IST)

WICKET! Shubhman Gill departs! Big breakthrough for Australia, ball pitching and turnin. Gill comes down the crease but fails to connect, the ball goes between bat and pad, clattering onto the stumps.India 131/2. Gill departs for 31

12:21(IST)

Australia not helping themselves with the defensive fieldset here, they are happy to concede singles here and thats what India need. Sangha should look to attack more. India 131/1 after 21 overs

Australia getting Uppal into the attack, and India getting 5 runs from the over there. Boys looking totally comfortable and in control here, India are 130/1 after 20.2 overs.

12:13(IST)

12:02(IST)

50! Manjot Kalra brings up his half-century, quality innings from him in the final, taking the attack to the Aussie bowlers. He reaches the landmark off just 47 balls. Will be looking to carry on and seal the deal for India here. They are 110/1 after 17 overs.

11:56(IST)

FOUR! Gill with a perfect off drive, through the covers region. He is looking in ominous form here and India cross 100. They are 103/1 after 16 overs and look to be en route to a convincing victory!

11:52(IST)

Sutherland with a quite over, but he's fighting a lone battle here, no support at all from the other bowlers. India hurriedly moving towards the target here, as Gill gets another cracking boundary off Pope. India are 97/1 after 15 overs.

11:48(IST)

Gill continuing his ominous form, getting a crunchy boundary off Pope, India look to be in a hurry to finish this one. India 88/1

11:39(IST)

WICKET! Sutherland strikes and gets the big wicket of Prithvi Shaw, the ball comes slightly in and Shaw looks to go for the off drive but misses the ball. It goes onto hit the top of off stump. India 71/1 after 11.4 overs. Shaw departs for 29.

11:34(IST)

Australia and India play in the final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup at the Bay Oval in Tauranga on Saturday knowing that victory in the day-night encounter will make their side the most successful ones in the history of the tournament. Australia and India have won the title three times each with a fairly even record in ICC U19 Cricket World Cups when it comes to head-to-head encounters but India have had the edge in recent years as well as in this tournament, which culminates after an elaborate league-cum-knockout competition that saw 16 teams in the fray. India have the psychological advantage of having beaten Australia by 100 runs in their tournament opener and have also won the previous two matches including at the 2012 final, which was the last of India’s three titles. Australia’s wins against India in the tournament were in 1988 and 1998. India are the only unbeaten side in the tournament with the win over Australia being their lowest margin of victory. They are considered a balanced side with the Shubman Gill-led batting line-up and a potent fast bowling attack giving captain Prithvi Shaw several options as they look to add a fourth title to the ones India won in 2000, 2008 and 2012.

India captain Prithvi Shaw said he was comforted by the fact that the fast bowling attack had been doing well right from the first match. “Whenever the team’s needed them, they (fast bowlers) have provided the breakthroughs. They’re ready whenever I ask them to bowl. They’ve good intensity as well, their fitness is great as well. All of them … Kamlesh (Nagarkoti), (Ishan) Porel, (Shivam) Mavi. It helps us all have a good attitude in the field, we’re all really pumped up when our fast bowlers do well," he said. Shaw was not bothered that the batting line-up had not been tested enough, with the openers getting solid starts in all but one of five matches, including two century partnerships, and number three batsman Gill aggregating 341 runs at an average of 170.50, including one innings as opener. "I have confidence that even if we get one partnership, we can take charge of the match and take the score to 250-300. If you look at our match against Australia too, we put up a good total, even though we lost a couple of wickets after an early partnership. The middle order also controlled the innings well,” he said. Shaw though was cautious and said Australia had a better side than the one they had beaten early on and that he would focus on his own team doing well. On the other hand, Australia captain Jason Sangha said his team was looking to seize the initiative against India as the team looks to add a fourth title to the ones won in 1998, 2002 and 2010. “The 100-run loss does not bother me at all. A grand final is a different contest. It’s a different pitch, different nerves. They’ve played good cricket but if we get a couple of early wickets and put pressure on their players, anything can happen. “We wouldn’t say we are underdogs. We are not the favourites, but at the end of the day we are Australia, we are our own team, India are their own team. We are a side that can beat any team if we play well. We’ve grown by leaps and bounds since our first match,” he said.

Australia have had big moments too with their bowlers producing the two best performances till date in the tournament. Fast bowler Jason Ralston took a tournament record seven for 15 against Papua New Guinea and then leg-spinner Lloyd Pope bettered that with eight for 35 in a dramatic low-scoring quarter-final against England in Queenstown. Though Ralston had to return home due to an injury, captain Sangha feels there is a lot of sting in their bowling attack. “They (India) have not been tested too much, especially the middle-order. We are a different side, and playing some really good cricket. I don’t think there are any nerves, all the guys are quite excited,” he said. This is the fifth time that Australia have made the final of the tournament. India are playing the final for the sixth time, including in the last edition in 2014, when they lost to the Windies.

The Under-19 WC Final between India and Australia will be played in Tauranga and the live broadcast will be shown on Star Sports Network, starting 6:00 AM on Feb 3.
