Time of 9:54.11 is the 11th-fastest in NCAA Division II this season
AKRON Malone's Hannah Thompson set a school record in the women's 3,000-meter run at Saturday's Akron Invitational.
Thompson's time of 9:54.41 is the fourth-fastest indoors in Great Midwest Athletic Conference history and the 11th-fastest in NCAA Division II this season. She finished second in a field which included 12 Division I runners.
Freshman Noah Chaplik and Nick Chaplik also had strong showings for the Malone men in the mile. Noah finished fourth in 4:13.32, while Nick came in fifth in 4:14.24.
The Chapliks have quickly moved into the top 10 on the Pioneers' all-time performance list. Today's time pushed Noah into fifth place. Nick is eighth. Both times are also in the top 10 in G-MAC history.
Purple Raiders enjoy successful Wuske Invitational
Mount Union's indoor track and field teams won eight events and set two meet records in the Jim Wuske Invitational at Peterson Fieldhouse.
Both meet records were set by the women's team. Hilary Reigle won the 1,000 meters in 3:03.13. The 800 relay team of Daijana Johnson, Megan Bailey, Mariah Eisenbraun and Hailey Miller won in 1:47.92.
The 1,600 relay recorded the women's team's other victory. Bailey, Miller, Lindsay Thut and Cortni Arp ran a winning time of 3:03.13.
The men's, ranked No. 5 in the nation, won five events.
Raphael Tshikala posted a career-best mark of 46 feet, 4.25 inches in winning the triple jump. The other winners were Louis Berry in the 200 (22.94 seconds), Matt Keim in the pole vault (15-9), Mark Worley in the 1,000 (2:40.97) and Evan Hershberger in the high jump (6-6).

Mount Union posts three wins at Edinboro Open
EDINBORO, PA. Three Mount Union wrestlers won matches at the Edinboro Open, which featured a number of NCAA Division I wrestlers.
Purple Raider senior Trent Gill decisioned Navy's Caleb Kelly 3-0 at 125 pounds, while sophomore John Staron pinned Edinboro's Ryan Newman (1:49) and junior Tony Rupert pinned Edinboro's Isaac Hartman (:38).
There were no team scores at the event.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Westminster sweeps Purple Raiders
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. The Mount Union men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Westminster on Saturday at the Westminster Natatorium, with the men losing 188-110 and the women losing 156-40.
The Purple Raider men were led by senior Tyler Fry, who won the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.49 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 1:57.17. Logan Palochak was the winner in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly with times of 22.18 and 52.91, respectively.
The Mount Union women were led by senior Dana Lautenschleger, who posted wins in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:57.09 and the 500 freestyle in 5:22.86. Junior Lauren Oktavec recorded wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke with a times of 1:01.61 and 2:15.45, respectively.
