EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University sophomore Marissa Flim bested a 2016 Olympic runner in the 55-meter dash to highlight seven event victories for the Warriors in the 19th annual DeSchriver Invitational on Saturday.
Flim ran a personal-best time of 7.18 in her race, beating out hurdling standout Nia Ali by 0.01 in her heat. Ali earned a silver medal for the U.S. Olympic team in the 100m hurdles at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and she was the 2014 World Indoor Champion in the 60m hurdles. A Philadelphia native, she is currently in training for the upcoming World Championships.
Flim’s time, three-hundredths off her previous PR, ranks No. 3 in ESU program history. Her performance was one of five race wins on the track for the Warrior women.
The 4x200m relay team of junior Aspen Gaita, Flim, sophomore Sarah Klag and sophomore Tiana Webster began the afternoon with a first-place time of 1:44.80. That mark is No. 2 all-time in team history, only 0.08 off the school record which was established in 2001.
Gaita would later top a field of 31 runners in the 55m hurdles, crossing the line in a new PSAC qualifying time of 8.22, and she placed third in the high jump with a top clearance of 5-3 3/4.
The next win on the track came from junior Shante Dorin in the 600m. Her time of 1:39.92 is No. 2 all-time at ESU, less than two seconds off Erin Brady’s mark of 1:38.06 set at last year’s DeSchriver meet.
