Representative to discuss flood insurance   State Rep. Jerome Zeringue, R-Houma, will discuss the status of the National Flood Insurance Program at the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce general membership luncheon on Feb. 27.   Zeringue is the executive director for the Louisiana Flood Risk Coalition, which was established in 2016 to advocate for reform of the National Flood Insurance Program.

The 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. luncheon will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott, 142 Library Drive, Houma.

Admission is $25 with payment required in advance. The deadline for reservations is 4 p.m. Feb. 21. The cost after the deadline is $30. Register online at www.houmachamber.com.

 

Lafourche chamber names Educator of the Year

Fletcher Technical Community College Chancellor Kristine Strickland was awarded Educator of the Year by the Lafourche Chamber of Commerce at its 2017 Annual Awards Banquet.

The banquet was held at the Wellness Center of Thibodaux Regional on Jan. 11.

The award is given to an individual whose service or performance positively impacts the quality of life in Lafourche Parish or Grand Isle. Last year's award recipient was Mary Reynaud a site director at Virtual Academy of Lafourche.

 

Bayou Industrial Group to hold annual banquet

Phillip May, president/CEO of Entergy Louisiana, is the keynote speaker for the Bayou Industrial Group's annual banquet on March 13 at the Wellness Center of Thibodaux Regional.

May's presentation is titled "Powering Louisiana through Economic Development and Community Investment."

The 2018 BIG Achiever Awards will also be presented.

Cocktails start at 6 p.m. and the dinner and program begins at 7 p.m.

The cost is $70, tables for eight cost $560 and sponsorships run from $300 to $2,500.

Financial program planned in Thibodaux

Ramsey Solutions’ Financial Peace University, created by financial expert Dave Ramsey, will be held Feb. 18 in Thibodaux.

The nine-week course provides families and individuals with practical tools to gain control of their finances and set themselves up for long-term financial success, according to a news release.

FPU says it gives people the tools they need to change their behavior and succeed financially. Ramsey teaches lessons on budgeting, relationships and money, getting out of debt, saving for emergencies and investing.

On average, families who complete FPU pay off $5,300 and save $2,700 in the first 90 days, the company says.
