NEW DELHI: Four Army personnel were martyred and another was injured in Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's
Rajouri district on Sunday, reported news agency ANI.
Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to heavy firing and
shelling
in Rajouri district's Bhimber Gali sector this evening. One officer, Captain Kapil Kundu, and three jawans - Rifleman Ramavatar, Rifleman Subham Singh and Havaldar Roshan Lal - lost their lives in the ceasefire violation.
The Army was giving a befitting reply as heavy exchanges were on, reported PTI quoting a senior army official.
Earlier, a jawan and two civilians were injured as Pakistani army
targeted forward posts and villages in Poonch+
and Rajouri districts.
The injured civilians were identified as Shahnaz Bano (15) and Yasin Arif (14), residents of
Islamabad village, a police official told PTI. Both of them were hospitalised.
A Defence spokesman said
Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from small arms, automatics, and mortars around 1110 hours. The
Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively, he said.
With these casualties, 17 people, including nine security personnel, were killed and over 70 injured in intense shelling and firing by Pakistan along the LoC and International Border in the Jammu region this year.
While there were no ceasefire violations by Pakistan reported along the IB since January 22, intermittent shelling has taken place along the LoC.
