LEDYARD - Sarah Serbascewicz needed just eight points to reach 1,000 for her career coming into Saturday’s game. She scored 26 as she led the Ledyard girls’ basketball team to a 55-49 win over Weaver, the perfect way to snap the team’s five-game losing streak.
Julia Lavin put up 14 points and eight rebounds for the Colonels (7-10), while Jade Langworthy got seven points and seven steals.

CROMWELL - Taina Pagan, Xaryia Melendez and Rosalee Nicholson all posted double-doubles in the No. 2 Whalers’ (17-0) win over Cromwell on Saturday.
Pagan put up 14 points, 24 rebounds and five steals, Melendez got 14 points and 10 boards and Nicholson finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

LEDYARD - The Colonels (8-6) suffered their second overtime loss in as many days on Saturday.
Trevor Hutchins posted a triple-double for Ledyard 28 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocks, while Devin Rickerson got 21 points and Ken Turner added 10.

Montville wrestlers shine at Woodstock Invitational
WOODSTOCK - The No. 9 Montville wrestling team turned in several top-tier individual performances at the Woodstock Invitational on Saturday.
Noah Caskey stole the show in the 132-pound weight class, taking first place after defeating two previously undefeated wrestlers, including defending state champion Sean Johnson, whom Caskey defeated in a triple-overtime thriller. Caskey was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Sam Kury won a triple-overtime match of his own to win the 152 weight class, while Nick Tibbetts took 2nd in the 220 class and Ian Anderson (147), Caleb Forehand (170) and Darrick Deveau (285) all got fourth in their respective classes.
Griswold sweeps 4-corners duals
CLINTON - Griswold went unbeaten in four matches at the Four Corners Duals at The Morgan School on Saturday, beating Granby Memorial (58-22), Derby (56-21), Canton (52-24) and Morgan (42-36). Jason Jacaruso (145), Stephen Sims (182) and Johnny Falco (195) all went 4-0 for the Wolverines on the day, with Sims benefitting from a forfeit in the final match against Morgan and Falco getting three wins by forfeit. Jacaruso won all four of his matches via pin.
Lyman/Windham Tech takes 2nd at Bobcat Classic
COLCHESTER - The Lyman/Windham Tech wrestling took second place at the Bobcat Classic at Bacon Academy on Saturday, finishing with 214 team points, just behind Wethersfield’s 215.5.
Mike O’Connell (285) and Mason LaFlam (170) got first in their respective weight classes for Lyman/Windham Tech, while Jackson Archer (126), Jared Swett (138) and Ryan Powers (152) got second, Levi Franson (120), Dylan Decarli (145) and Joe Reihl (195) got third and Jeffry Stober (113), Ananias Cortez (132) and Nick Parla (220) finished fourth.
For the host school, Bacon, Braeden O’Brien (113) and Ben Grottle (220) took first, Rylan Grant (106) got third and Spencer Nauss (120) finished fourth.

It was the only goal they would score.
The Avon-Southington-East Granby-RHAM cooperative (4-11-1) countered with three goals in the first period including one by Sydney Rice with one second left to post the win.

Chase Anderson scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half and Cole Hackett had 10 of his 18 in the first for the Centaurs (5-10, 2-5).
