DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has announced new business opportunities by issuing fresh licences to street vendors.
This came among the ministry's efforts to support the private sector and to enhance the utilisation of the ministry's initiative related to requirements and conditions of licensing activity of street's vendor.
It also aims to shed light on new opportunities in the non-oil industries. Through this initiative, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has identified two types of vendor carts. The first type is mobile trolleys which are constantly moving in order to provide service in different places.
The distance between the two such vendors should not be less than 20 metres (m).
The second type of trolley is fixed at one place, usually towed by another vehicle and its length should be about 2m and its width should not exceed 1.5m.
These vendors will be allowed to sell hot and cold food and beverages, fruits and vegetable and canned food.
The Ministry explained that if more than one worker is working 'on the same sponsorship, each worker must have a separate license. Regarding the conditions and requirements for obtaining a license, the Ministry said that a conduct certificate, a health certificate and the approval from the sponsor (personal or company) will be required. The Ministry indicated that in case the vendor trolley fixed at one place, it would need approval from authorities concerned. The Ministry noted that the carts should not obstruct traffic, stand on main streets or near intersections.
The Ministry said that the vendors should stay away from the entrances of schools, hospitals, mosques and other places identified by the Ministry.
