Onyx Hospitality Signs Shama in Hangzhou

Onyx Hospitality Group has signed its fourth Shama property so far this month.

Occupying a 21-storey building within Yaojiang Wending International, the large-scale commercial complex development by Yaojiang Group, Shama Zijingang Hangzhou is perfectly positioned within the Xihu (West Lake) District of Hangzhou, which is in close proximity to the Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University, one of the most prestigious tertiary education institutions in China.

The Hangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Centre and the West Lake Scenic Area are both within a 20-minute drive, together with direct access to MRT Lines 2 and 5, and a shopping mall offering lifestyle and entertainment options.

Shama Zijingang will feature 384 keys, a business centre, gym, and a multi-function Shama Den lounge area.

The property is scheduled to open during the second quarter of 2019.

“Hangzhou is full of business opportunities, and is one of the top Chinese cities that boast over 1 trillion CNY of GDP. Most recently, the city was named one of the world’s top 15 model cities for best practices in tourism by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation,” said Tommy Lai, Vice President, North Asia, Onyx Hospitality Group. “This project plays a significant part in the growth of Onyx, raising the brand awareness of Shama and strengthening our position within China. This also brings us one step closer to our target of having 99 hotels open by 2024 and becoming the best medium-sized hospitality player in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Shama is a leading and award-winning provider of premium serviced apartments across Asia, with 20 serviced apartment properties across Asia-Pacific, including 12 in the development pipeline in markets such as Australia, China and Malaysia.

Earlier this month, Onyx announced a strategic multi-property partnership with Chinese real estate enterprise Sincere Holdings Groups, in opening Shama in 12 key cities across China, with Shama Hongqiao Shanghai and Shama Changfeng Shanghai being the first two projects to be developed as part of the partnership.

Most recently, Onyx also entered a partnership for Shama Lakeview Asoke Bangkok with JR Kyushu, the company’s first Japanese institutional partner. All of these projects signed are slated for opening within 2018.
