Romelu Lukaku has told Manchester United chiefs to spend big in the summer.

The Belgium international was United's biggest signing last summer when he was arrived from Everton for £75million and the attacker has called on Mourinho to do the same again in the next transfer window.

Lukaku, who scored for United in the win against Huddersfield, was speaking to Sky Sports about Mourinho's contract extension when he made the claims about the transfers.

"Of course it is good [Mourinho’s new contract], everything is stable,’ Lukaku told Sky Sports. "He can continue building on what he is building now. Everybody knows how the manager works.

"If we do everything right until the end of the season, add in some reinforcements in the summer, we will be even stronger than we are now.

"I do not think the same as the manager. It [the league] is not done yet, we have to keep fighting."

Mourinho has already suggested United are ready to spend big in the summer despite bringing in Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window.

"Don’t say my club doesn’t support or doesn’t want to spend," he said. "Two years my club paid lot of money for Paul [Pogba], last summer paid a lot of money for Lukaku, I’m pretty sure next year is going to pay a lot of money for one player.

"But we are doing these things with some balance because it’s the profile of the club. We do it with some balance."
