Barcelona completed the £142m transfer of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool in January after months of negotiations.
Coutinho becomes the third player to make the switch from Anfield to the Nou Camp in recent years following the likes of Javier Mascherano and Luis Saurez.
And in each of the seasons Barca have acquired a Liverpool player they have gone on to win the Champions League.
Mestre is now hoping Coutinho can bring them the same luck and says if he does they may need to return to Liverpool for further additions in the future.
“If so, we will be signing players from Liverpool... But they [need to be] more cheap,” he told Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

Mestre previously claimed Barca had paid a good price for Coutinho, despite the Brazilian being the second most expensive transfer in history.
”The interest of the club has always been to take Coutinho to Barcelona," Mestre said.
"The difference is that there has been a substantial reduction in the cost of this transfer.

"We are not going to discuss the numbers. The important thing is we have the player here.
"If I reveal numbers I will be breaking our agreement with Liverpool."
Coutinho has played just one game for Barca since his move following his return from injury but could get more minutes under his belt when Barca take on Espanyol this afternoon.
