Imphal, February 03 2018: Thoubal Ward number 5 Councillor as well as Chairman of Thoubal Municipal Council Thongam Shyamo Singh has condemned the attempt to disqualify him, deeming it a political ploy.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club yesterday, Thongam Shyamo Singh said that the order issued by MAHUD Secretary Bobby Waikhom on January 31, reeks of political biasedness.

He claimed that he only received the disqualification notice on Feb 1 and prior to that, he had not receive any kinds of information or news.

He further added that according to the notice, he was disqualified for non collection of outstanding dues in connection with Entry Toll Tax and subsequent award of work to L Shusindro Singh.

He clarified that the failure in collection of Entry Toll Tax was mainly due to the grave floods last year as well as the inconveniences posed by demonetisation and the economic blockade.

Regarding the case, the High Court of Manipur directed Thoubal DC to establish a High Power Committee and conduct an enquiry into the case and during the enquiry, Thoubal Municipal Council Executive Officer had even submitted a reply indicating that there were no misconduct of any kind, he added.

Shyamo further alleged that the order issued by MAHUD Secretary for disqualifying him, by brushing aside the reply of the High Power Committee, is a political ploy.

He added that he submitted an appeal to the High Court today, under Section 29 (1) of Municipality Act 1994 and the Court has been suspended the disqualification order with immediate effect.
