Today's fixtures

There are huge games at the top and bottom of the Premier League table today, as Crystal Palace host Newcastle before top-four chasing Tottenham travel to Liverpool.

Andros Townsend will come up against his former team in the early kick-off, as Palace look to get back to winning ways against relegation rivals Newcastle. Both sides could move up to 11th with a win, but the losers will be left looking nervously over their shoulders at the bottom three.

And then the big one: Liverpool vs Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his men can build on their incredibly impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United earlier in the week. Meanwhile Liverpool are out for revenge – they lost the reverse fixture at Wembley 4-1. A win will keep the Reds in third and cut United’s lead in second to just three points.

Six pointer

Jurgen Klopp says that this afternoon's clash against Spurs is a must win and that Liverpool must use their home advantage.

The Tottenham game at Wembley was not a good game from us. They had a good start, good middle of the game, and good finish – that’s why they won the game. But it’s absolutely nothing to do with the next game. [But with] the situation in the table, our targets and what we want to do and where we want to finish the season, it is clear it is a very important game. These are ‘six-point’ games and the only advantage one team can have in a situation like this is to play at home, at Anfield in this case. That’s really good and I’m looking forward to it.

Tottenham humiliated Liverpool when these sides met at Wembley in October. Harry Kane, Son and Dele Alli all scored as Spurs put four past Liverpool who scored a consolation goal when Mohamed Salah hit one back.

Time now to turn our attention to Anfield. Liverpool name Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are recalled for Joel Matip and Joe Gomez after Tuesday's 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

Rather unsurprisingly, Tottenham name an unchanged side after taking apart Manchester United in their 2-0 win at Wembley on Wedneday.

Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle

Mohamed Diame gave Newcastle an early lead when he tapped in from close range after no Crystal Palace player marked him from a corner. Palace hit back and Ciaran Clark conceded a penalty when he pulled Christian Benteke in the air. Luka Milivojevic scored from the spot and the Eagles pushed for a winner but could not find a way to goal.

87: How have Palace not scored! Christian Benteke heads Wilfried's Zaha header towards goal but it is cleared off the line by Ciaran Clark. Several players in red and blue scramble towards the ball but somehow Newcastle clear it for a corner.

82: With around ten minutes to go the pace of this game is beginning to slow down a touch. Newcastle look like they might settle for a point and Palace, who were pushing hard earlier now look less likely to score a winner.
