TUGUEGARAO , Philippines — A militiaman was killed in a misencounter with Army troopers in Pinukpuk, Kalinga on Friday.
Rashid Alunday of Conner, Apayao and his colleagues in the 31st Civilian Armed Auxiliary were walking in Barangay Tagay when troopers of the Army’s 56th Infantry Battalion reportedly opened fire at them.
The soldiers reportedly mistook the militiamen for New People’s Army guerrillas, according to a report received by Kalinga police chief Senior Superintendent Alfredo Dangani.
The troopers were conducting security operations in Sitio Dipasitao when they spotted the militiamen at around 6 a.m.
Authorities were investigating the incident.
