Berset was met by his Bangladeshi counterpart President Md Abdul Hamid after arriving at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:23pm on Sunday.

The Swiss president will also engage in bilateral talks during his four-day visit to Bangladesh.

On Mar 13, 1972 Switzerland recognised Bangladesh and established diplomatic relations with the country. The two nations celebrated the 45th anniversary of their ties last year.

Berset was greeted with a 21-gun salute and received flowers upon his arrival. He was then accompanied by President Hamid to a stage, where he stood for the national anthems of both countries and received a guard of honour from the Bangladesh military.

The Swiss president will leave Dhaka on Feb 7.
