New Delhi: India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu lost to USA's Beiwen Zhang in the finals of the India Open 18-21, 21-11, 20-22. The defending champion had an opportunity to pocket the match when she had a match-point at 20-19, but the shuttler from USA held her nerves to pocket her first Superseries title.
In the entire match, Beiwen played on strong point—smash—and did not let Sindhu settle. She led in the first game constantly and did well to counter Sindhu's net play. In the second game, the Indian did make a comeback, but in the deciding game, fell short.
Right from the start of the match, Beiwen had an upper hand over Sindhu, as the former did not give any room to the Indian to smash properly. Sindhu, despite losing the match played really well at the net, and most of her points came by drawing Zhang forward at the net.
There was not much of a difference between the two girls' performance, but the Indian fell short when it mattered the most. Also, Sindhu could not lift most of the smashes that came from Zhang. That was probably one of the biggest factors, why Sindhu couldn't win the match.
