LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It’s spring sports time for the University of Findlay as the Oilers’ softball team opened its season with a pair of nonconference wins at Bellarmine Saturday.
Findlay scored four runs in the first and four more in the third on its way to a 10-4 win over Bellamine in the opener.
Salwa Al-Hajabed homered and doubled, driving in a pair of runs. Kelley Cejer homered, Amanda Delmonte tripled and singled to drive in two runs and Madison Arnold (Elmwood) had two singles and two RBIs to lead UF at the plate.
Hailey Bryan went five innings allowing two runs, one earned on five hits to get the win.
In the second game, a pair of fifth-inning runs propelled the Oilers to a 4-2 win over Lincoln Memorial.
Molly Crosby got the win in the circle for the Oilers as she came on in fourth in relief of Caragyn Yanek. Crosby held Lincoln Memorial scoreless on one hit with a walk and four strikeouts.
Meredith Shepherd stroked a pair of singles, Cejer had an RBI single as did Destinie Keeton to lead UF at the plate.

Wrestlers feel pain
PAINESVILLE — Painesville was the appropriate location for the University of Findlay wrestling match Saturday.
With a number of starters nursing injuries the Roughnecks were forced to four weight classes in a 36-12 dual match loss to Lake Erie College.
Josh Wimer knocked off Andrew Lieb 8-5 at 149 and Mimmo Lytle beat Brandon Houle 7-2 at 285 and Brad Metz pinned the Storm’s Tyler Hughes in 6;49 at 184 for UF’s only wins.
The team forfeited at 141, 157, 165 and 174 pounds.

Four Oilers win
CEDARVILLE — Four University of Findlay athletes recorded first-place finishes as the Oilers’ indoor track and field teams competed in Friday’s Cedarville Collegiate Invitational.
In the men’s meet, senior Trey Everett finished first in the high jump (6-8¼). Javian Martin won the shot put (48-3½) and Martin Etsey set a new Great Midwest Athletic Conference record in the long jump (22-6¼).
Milani Glass led the Oilers in the women’s meet by taking the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.95.

Lacrosse picked 2nd
The University of Findlay women’s lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference this season as the league released its annual preseason coaches poll.
The Oilers received 32 points in the poll and two first-place votes. UF trailed Lake Erie in the poll. The Storm received 35 points and five first-place votes as league favorite in 2018.
Findlay finished last season with a 7-11 record.
Radmanovic named
University of Findlay senior Janko Radmanovic has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Radmanovic was victorious in three out of four events on senior day last week in helping the Oilers earn a victory over Tiffin University.
