CAYCE, S.C. -- Amtrak train 91 operating between New York and Miami collided with a CSX freight train in Cayce, South Carolina at 2:35 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Amtrak, the lead engine as well as some passenger cars derailed.

South Carolina Emergency Management reports two people have died and more than 70 have been transported to the hospital. Officials also say an estimated 5,000 gallons of fuel have spilled. There is no threat to the community because of the fuel leak.

According to reports from WLTX, "Palmetto Health hospitals confirmed they have received a total of 62 patients: 59 adults and 2 children. Two of those patients are expected to be admitted to the hospital. Lexington Medical Center said they had received 27 patients, all with minor injuries, and they are all being discharged. Palmetto Health Baptist received 5 patients, Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge received 9 patients and Palmetto Health Richland received 48 patients."

The South Carolina Red Cross has opened an emergency site at Pine Ridge Middle School, according to the Lexington Sheriff.
