A Plattenville man was arrested Saturday morning after he attacked a store manager with liquor bottles after being accused of shoplifting, Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon said.
Deputies found the manager with significant injuries, and there was a large amount of broken liquor bottles at the store when they arrived, the sheriff said.
Investigators interviewed witnesses and determined Bryant Tunson, 43, of 116 Thomas St., allegedly shoplifted goods from the store and was escorted to the manager's office before the attack, Falcon said. He also threatened employees because they locked the front door.
The manager was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and Tunson was examined at Assumption Community Hospital for an unrelated medical condition, Falcon said.
Tunson was charged with aggravated second-degree battery, criminal damage to property, misdemeanor theft and simple assault. He is being held at the Assumption jail pending a bond hearing.
Deputies also arrested Shonta Bell, 42, of 114 Belle Rose Lane, Belle Rose, who went to the store with Tunson, Falcon said. He is being held in jail on charges of marijuana possession and driving on a roadway laned for traffic and warrants for felony theft and monetary instrument abuse.
The Sheriff's Office says it is trying to determine if he was involved in the incident.
