Poonch, Feb 04: Pakistan on Sunday resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the sources, heavy firing started at 11 o’clcok in the morning and is still continuing. Pakistani troops are targeting Indian posts along with civilian areas. The Indian Army is also retaliating strongly.
Repeated incidents of ceasefire violations by other side have been reported. The troops of arch rivals India and Pakistan intermittently exchange fire on LoC, a de facto border dividing Kashmir between the two neighbours, despite an agreement in 2003 that a ceasefire should be observed along the working boundary.
Both New Delhi and Islamabad blame each other for resorting to unprovoked firings.
The Himalayan region of Kashmir has been a bone of contention between the nuclear-armed India and Pakistan since both gained independence in 1947.
