Cancer Patient Services will spice up the winter season with its 21st annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The nonprofit agency’s signature fundraiser will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the University of Findlay’s Koehler Center and is co-presented by Blanchard Valley Hospital and Hancock Federal Credit Union.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6 to 12 and free for ages 5 and under.
Presale tickets can be purchased at the Cancer Patient Services office, 1800 N. Blanchard St., suite 120; or they can be purchased at the door the day of the event.
Admission includes tasting 20 chilis, a drink, a Dietsch Brothers ice cream bar, and a variety of snacks.
Twenty teams representing area organizations and businesses will be on hand to provide 20 gallons of chili each while competing for first, second and third place in four categories: Celebrity Judge Best Chili, Best Decorated Booth, People’s Choice Best Chili, and the Spirit Money Award (given to the team that raises the most money).
Family-friendly events will include a kids zone featuring Monkey Around bounce houses, Snapology, a spinning prize wheel and the Ohio State University chapter of A Moment of Magic, who will be dressed up like popular movie characters.
There will also be a raffle offering chances to win a $500, $1,000 or $2,500 gift card to AAA, allowing the winner to choose the vacation destination.
Five experience raffle baskets will also be available, including sporting event tickets, beer tasting, date-night packages, and more.
AAA raffle tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Cancer Patient Services office before the event.
The winner does not need to be present at the event to win.
Tickets for the AAA cards and the baskets will also be sold at the cook-off, with unlimited purchases available.
Cancer Patient Services’ goal is to reduce the stress of a cancer diagnosis by providing financial assistance, medical supplies, nutritional supplements, patient navigation, emotional support and healing arts programming.
The organization hopes to raise at least $100,000 this year, while exceeding last year’s attendance of 1,300 people.
