A 24-year-old girl was critically injured after an attempt was made on her life after she resisted a molestation attempt in Gorakhpur on Saturday noon. While the victim was battling for her life, the police claimed to have launched a hunt for the accused but no arrests were reported so far.
As per reports, Sunita of Pagra hamlet of Kushninagar was working in a private hospital in Gorakhpur and used to stay on rent in Devi Singh’s house in Bilindpur locality.
Her father Vijay Chauhan said that on Saturday afternoon as Sunita returned to her room after completing her duty, she was intercepted by two motorcycle borne youths. The accused tried to molest his daughter but when she resisted, they attacked her with sharp edged objects and tried to slit her throat in which she was critically injured.
While the accused sped off after the attack, some passers-by raised an alarm and rushed the victim to District Hospital from where doctors referred her to BR Medical College in Gorakhpur. The shocked father informed the police about the incident.
SSP Gorakhpur, Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said that they were waiting for the girl to recover to get a clue about the accused. He said that the police was trying to collect CCTV footage of the area whioch could help identify the accused. A case was registered in this regard.
Menwhile in Shamli, a woman was harassed by three men in a roadways bus on Delhi-Saharanpur highway. When her husband and father-in-law objected, they too were not spared and assaulted. The woman accompanied by the two male members was on her way from Kandhla to Saharanpur when the incident took place on Friday evening. The accused boarded the bus midway and started harassing her. Other passengers nabbed one of them and handed him over to the police, while the other two managed to flee.
Elsewhere in Bulundshahr, the police arrested an engineering graduate claiming that he was involved in the killing of two sisters whose bodies were recovered from their home last Thursday evening.
The cops said that the accused, identified as Ankit, was known to Sheelu and that the killing took place after she rejected his marriage proposal.
SSP Bulundshahr, Muniraj said that Ankit used to work in Dubai and had recently returned home. “On Thursday, he visited Sheelu’s residence and proposed her for marriage, but she rejected the proposal. An incensed Ankit then strangled her. When her kin Shivani tried to stop him, he also garrotted her killed using a clutch wire,” he said.
“Later, Ankit took out petrol from his motorbike and set the bodies on fire. The police put the mobile phones of Ankit and a few other suspects on surveillance which revealed that Ankit was at Sheelu’s residence on the day the killings. Ankit was picked up and during quizzing, owned up his crime,” the SSP said.
On Thursday evening, Sheelu (23) and her cousin Shivani (22) were at their home at Bahmau hamlet of Bibiganj in Bulundhshahr, as their family had gone to Delhi for making some purchases for a wedding. A neighbour called up her Sheelu’s father tellingabout smoke billwoing out of his house. Later the police was called and they found the semi-burnt body of Sheelu on the floor and that of Shivani hanging from the ceiling.
Taking serious cognizance, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had sought a detailed report in the matter and directed officers to ensure the early arrest of the culprits.
