Well, they couldn’t approve a budget proposal, so they allowed yet another government shutdown. Then they promised to address issues that both the Democrats and Republicans said were important and the government is back at work. We shall see if the promises hold.

What we do know is that the current Congress — and past Congresses, for that matter — are dysfunctional. It is more important to them to makes points with big donors than constituents. Voter sentiments do not seem to be what the Congress is heeding, but is slanted toward who gives the biggest piece of pie to them.

For example, most Americans were firmly against a shutdown. It happened anyway. A majority of Americans feel it is important to provide for the “Dreamers.” It has not happened. A tax cut that benefits the rich long term was not necessarily a high priority for the majority of voters but was approved. You get the direction here. Simply, your congressional delegation in Utah and countrywide are not listening to their constituents and moving forward with legislation jibing with the majority of voter sentiment. The solution is to replacement them with new people in the fall elections.
