Also on the bill is Atlanta comic John Whitfield, aka DC Young Fly, and Jess Hilarious, who's been seen on MTV, BET and elsewhere. Details: 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at CFCC Wilson Center, 703 N. Film: 'Wilmington on Fire'
Christopher Everett's riveting documentary "Wilmington on Fire," which was the hit of the 2015 Cucalorus festival, continues to do its work of educating the public about the 1898 massacre in Wilmington thanks to regular community screenings. If you've not yet seen "Wilmington on Fire," check it out on Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. The film, which was featured in The New Yorker, goes into depth about the violence of 1898 in the Port City, during which whites forced blacks from positions of power in government, killed others and forced others to leave town under threat of violence. Details: 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Grace St., Wilmington. $5 in advance, $10 at the door. 910-763-3858.

Comedy: Adam Newman
Adam Newman is really funny, but he probably isn't the most romantic comedian out there. Which in a weird way makes him the perfect stand-up to play the Dead Crow Comedy Room's Valentine's Day weekend shows. Newman, who's been seen on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and has a one-hour special called "Fuzzies" streaming on Amazon, is more likely to talk about the charms of a film called "WolfCop" -- or unconventional ways to stop someone from choking, or being in a gay porno -- than he is about love. But that's OK. Sentimentality isn't that funny, after all. Details: 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Feb. 9-10 at Dead Crow Comedy Room, 265 N. Front St., Wilmington. $16 on Friday, $18 on Saturday. 910-399-1492 or DeadCrowComedy.com.
