Zavalney leads Aggies to win

During the actual boys basketball game, however, it was the Aggies' Adam Zavalney who stole the show with his play around the basket.

Zavalney poured in 28 points and guard Jace Jehlicka added 20 to lead Park River/Fordville-Lankin past Crookston 75-60.

The point total was a season high for Zavalney. The 6-foot-4 junior's performance included a dunk on a fast break, a hook shot from the low post and points around the basket off the dribble and low-post moves.

"Adam's an athletic kid,'' PR/FL coach Seth Kuchar said. "I don't know if he even knows how athletic he is.

"We were trying to pound the ball inside. That's been our game this year.''

Jehlicka helped open the inside with four treys. "That was a good shooting game for him,'' Kuchar said.

Nathan Zavalney added 12 points for the 9-5 Aggies, who won for the seventh time in their last eight games. Park River/F-L led 23-12, 43-30 and 57-40 at the quarter breaks.

Defending the post has been a season-long challenge for the 9-9 Pirates.

"They got easy buckets,'' Crookston coach Greg Garmen said. "They were a bigger, more physical team that we are. We're just not that physical. And we didn't have an answer for that No. 12 (Adam Zavalney).''

Carter Winand had 17 points, Jaden Lubarski 12 and Nick Garmen 11 to lead Crookston. "We didn't shoot very well,'' Greg Garmen said. "And that's important for us. When we're hitting (from the perimeter), that's when we roll.''
