It is frightening that Singaporeans adopt such a defeatist attitude towards climate change (Climate change: Many think they can't make a difference; Jan 27).
Is this born out of laziness or pessimism?
Laziness and a stubborn adherence to climate-damaging practices indicate selfishness and an attitude that one cannot be bothered to change for the common good, yet expect others to take the lead.
Pessimism is almost as dangerous as it removes any drive to try and change.
Whatever the case, our attitude has to change, drastically and immediately.
There is no shortage of scientific literature that gives evidence that climate change and its effects are accelerating.
As residents and citizens of Singapore, it is our responsibility to help the country achieve its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution target of reducing our emissions intensity by 36 per cent from 2005 levels by 2030.
It is also our shared obligation, as inhabitants of this planet, to protect it from further damage.
There are many sources of information that give tips on how individuals can help reform our climate - including taking public transport, using fans instead of air-conditioners and eating less meat.
I urge everyone to take a pledge to halt and reverse climate change, with planned actions to achieve their pledge.
It is only by working together that we can achieve climate reformation.
