New Delhi, Feb 3: As strike by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), continued for the second day, several shops in national capital including that in Connaught Place, Khan Market, Lajpat Nagar, Chandni Chowk, GK among others will remain closed on Saturday. The traders are protesting against the civic body’s massive sealing drive that saw over 600 shops in 100 shopping complexes sealed over the past few weeks.

Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General, CAIT said that ongoing sealing drive is very harmful for our economy and to protest against that almost 25,000 markets will be closed. “Protest marches would be also taken out by businessmen in around 500 markets,” Khandelwal added.

The traders have threatened to extend the strike for a third day if the BJP-ruled civic agencies do not stop the sealing drive.

Seeking intervention from the Centre in the matter, the traders body demanded the Union government bring a bill in the Parliament to protect Delhi trade and traders from the onslaught of sealing.

The shutdown decision was taken at a meeting of Delhi traders held at the Constitution Club in the national capital, which was attended by leaders of about 500 trade associations of the city.
