Former Bush speechwriter: ‘The Republican party is a broken party’

David Frum, a former speechwriter for President George W. "The Republican Party is a broken party," Frum said on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher." "And there are people who have served the Republican Party that was, and there are people who are volunteering to serve the Republican party that will be."

During the discussion, Scaramucci placed blame on Republican and Democratic administrations for mismanaging the nation's budget and throwing Washington into trillions of dollars of debt.

But Frum argued that Scaramucci's willingness to denigrate past Republican presidents highlighted the view that the Trump administration sees itself as set apart from the GOP as it has been in the past.

"It is important to understand that something new is taking the place of the Republican party," he added.
