THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Inaugurating the Thiruvananthapuram district meet of the party here, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that the party must be ready to accept all other parties who are willing to work with the LDF.
He added that along with strengthening the party, they should also work towards solidifying their foundation among general public.
Kodiyeri also said that the UDF has further weakened with the Kerala Congress(M) led by K M Mani and JD(U) led by M P Veerendra Kumar broke away from the front.
“Veerendra Kumar’s JD(U) offering to work with the LDF is a welcome sign. Also, the BJP has lost their strength unlike during the last Assembly elections. Many parties that joined hands with the BJP have openly expressed their displeasure. Under these circumstances, if the LDF can work towards fulfilling the promises made in the election manifesto, we can easily win a second term in power. The government led by Pinarayi Vijayan is willing to do so,” he said.
Kodiyeri also said that it is not enough for an LDF government to just rule in whichever way possible but must be able to take decisions that reflect the policies of the Leftists.
“And this is how the last VS government functioned. And it is following the same line that the current Pinarayi government is taking different initiatives,” he said.
Kodiyeri pointed out that the budget presented at the Assembly the other day by Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Isaac is something that upholds alternatives to the liberalisation in all sectors including healthcare and education.
Commenting on the topic of CPM-Congress alliance, he explained why it is not possible.
“The BJP would take advantage of it if the LDF forges political bonds with the Congress without them making changes in their neo-liberal policies. Though it is essential to form a broad platform against communalism, it is not advisable to join with the Congress,” he said.
He also spoke about the numerous instances when the CPM has either taken a neutral stand or sided with the Congress in the past but how the later only showed interest in going ahead with their neo-liberal policies.
He said that the discussions in the CPM is about how to raise a political rebellion against the liberalisation by the Congress and the communalism by the Modigovernment.
