DL man charged for marijuana wax

Christopher Paul Schmidt, 18, of rural Frazee has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.

According to court records, on Jan. 18, he was the front-seat passenger in a vehicle stopped for speeding in Detroit Lakes. The officer could smell burned marijuana and Schmidt allegedly said that he had been vaping in the car, but nothing illegal.

A search allegedly turned up a baggie with marijuana residue, a glass smoking pipe and a rubber container holding marijuana wax. On the floor behind him, the officer allegedly found another rubber container with more marijuana wax, for a total of 41.9 grams of marijuana wax.

Schmidt appeared in court Jan. 19 before District Judge Peter Irvine, who released him on his own recognizance, without bail.
