HEART to host family dance with Valentine's theme

The Helping Empower Abilities Resource Team (HEART) of Southeast Michigan, in the spirit of daddy/daughter dances and mom/son evenings, is having its first HEART to Heart Family Dance. It’s geared to families whose daughters and sons may not be able to fully participate in typical dances due to a disability.

Event highlights

1. Family-friendly fun Music, dancing, crafts, snacks, photo opportunities and goodies will be available for every family to take home.

2. Accessibility The Porter Center gym is fully accessible and offers a well-lighted dance area.

3. Holiday theme To celebrate Valentine’s Day, everything from the food to the decorations will capture the fun of the day.

4. All welcome The dance is designed for those who have not yet entered high school or equivalent LISD programming, but all siblings are welcome and volunteers are needed.

Why you should attend

“We encourage the families we serve to attend the traditional activities hosted by their schools or communities, but occasionally those events aren’t entirely adaptive or inclusionary enough to serve everyone. This is just another option.” — Jennifer Landstrom, HEART event organizer.
