DeKALB – A Waterman woman involved in a head-on crash Jan. 24 on Peace Road died Thursday afternoon, according to a GoFundMe page set up for her family.
Rachel Jimenez “passed very peacefully surrounded by those who loved her” at 4:45 p.m., according to the latest update on the page.
A single mother of three and a 1995 graduate of Sandwich High School, Jimenez and her son, Isaac, were southbound in a Toyota about 5 p.m. Jan. 24 near DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport when Kevin D. Taylor, 48, of the 600 block of Walnut Avenue in Maple Park, lost control of his northbound black Mustang while trying to pass another vehicle and hit the Toyota head-on.
According to the GoFundMe page, Jimenez suffered many broken bones, damage to her colon and a back fracture and underwent multiple surgeries after being flown to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. The page also said Isaac was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, had surgery and is on the road to recovery.
Taylor also was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital, and DeKalb police Cmdr. Steve Lekkas said Friday that the department is working with the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine what charges could be filed.
The GoFundMe campaign already has surpassed its $5,000 goal, bringing in about $8,500 from about 150 donors.
