‘Wetland for Sustainable Urban Future’ at EPCO premises held

Various programme and competitions were organised at EPCO premises Bhopal marking World Wetlands Day today by Environment Planning and Coordination Organisation (EPCO). Public awareness activities focused on ‘Wetland for a Sustainable Urban Future’ were undertaken through eco-clubs constituted by EPCO in all 51 districts.

The programme began at EPCO premises with a painting competition for students on the subject ‘Wetland our future’. This was followed by a film based on Bhoj Wetland and birds in wetlands which was shown to the students to provide information to them about the importance and conservation of wetlands. Students enthusiastically answered questions related to wetland and the Upper Lake in the Open House Quiz Contest.

Subject expert KG Vyas gave interesting information related to wetland. As many as 100 students and 10 eco-clubs in charge teachers of Eco-Club Schools-Government Middle School, Arera Colony, Government Middle School MACT, Government Middle School Kotra Sultanabad and Naveen Gyandeep Vidyalaya of Bhopal district in Rashtriya Harit-Core Yojana took part in the programme. In the painting competition, the first prize was given to Chanchal Ginnare, second prize to Rudra Kashyap, third to Khushbu Rao and consolation prize to Tanu Verma and Rishabh Wakoriya by chief guest KG Vyas. Trophies, certificates and participation certificates were distributed to all winners. The programme concluded with a rally amidst slogan raising at Shahpura lake.
