No surcharge on pending cases to be cleared by Lok Adalat

In order to dispose of the pending cases of property and water tax, surcharge will be exempted by the State Government through National Lok Adalat. Orders have been issued by the Department of Urban Development and Housing in this connection.

National Lok Adalats will be conducted in the State on February 10, April 14, July 14, September 8 and December 8, under the aegis of Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority.

The State Government has issued the order for exemption in property and water tax, which is being collected by the urban bodies under the provisions of Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act 1956 and 1961.

This exemption will not be applicable in those bodies, where election code of conduct is in place.

According to an official statement, exemption of up to 100 per cent will be given only on surcharge in such cases of property tax, in which the sum of the tax and surcharge up to Rs 50,000 is outstanding.

Exemption of up to 100 per cent will be given only on surcharge in such cases of water tax, in which the sum of the tax and surcharge up to Rs 10,000 is outstanding.

Exemption of up to 50 per cent will be given only on surcharge, in such cases of property tax , in which the sum of the tax and surcharge over Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh is outstanding.

Exemption of up to 75 per cent will be given only on surcharge in such cases of water tax, in which the sum of the tax and surcharge over Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 is outstanding.
