BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Eighth-ranked Providence College scored twice in the third period to salvage a 2-2 tie against Vermont at the Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday night.
Trailing 2-0, the Friars' Kasper Bjorkqvist cut the deficit to one goal with a tally at 4:16 of the third period. Assists were credited to Erik Foley and Brian Pinho.
With Vermont's Liam Coughlin in the box for boarding, PC tied the game on a power play goal by Scott Conway at 11:09 of the third, assisted by Brandon Duhaime and Vimal Sukumaran.
After a scoreless first period in which PC outshot Vermont, 16-4, the Catamounts' Derek Lodermeier opened the scoring at 3:05 of the second period.
Coughlin extended Vermont's lead to 2-0 with a goal at 13:20 of the second, setting the stage for PC's third-period rally.
PC outshot Vermont, 46-21.
Stefanos Lekkas stopped 44 shots for Vermont (7-15-5, 4-9-4 Hockey East). Hayden Hawkey made 19 saves for PC (17-8-4, 10-5-4).
The teams play again tonight at 7.
