Taylor Hospice sold for unspecified amount

RIDLEY PARK >> Taylor Hospice was sold Thursday to Pennsylvania Hospice Holdings for an unspecified amount, in a move expected to augment the services already provided there.

Taylor Hospice, a division of Taylor Community Foundation, serves between 300 to 400 families annually, mostly through home and senior living residential services. About 10 percent of its care is directed towards a six-bed, 24-hour, seven-day-a-week facility at 300 Johnson Ave. in Ridley Park.

On Thursday, the hospice transitioned to Taylor Hospice Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pennsylvania Hospice Holdings, the owner and operator of Willow Tree Hospice in Kennett Square and Asana Hospice and Pallative Care in Harrisburg.

TCF President Kurt Slenn said employment had been offered to the hospice’s 36 employees.

“The transition happened very cleanly (Thursday) in that nobody lost a job, nobody missed a visit,” he said. “There’s no disruption in care.”

Slenn explained that the search for a buyer began some time ago.

“We’ve been spending seven years planning for the future of the operation and really looking for the most perfect partner,” he said. “We found a partner that has (the) same values.”

David Glick, president of Taylor Hospice Holdings, said its mission is to provide the highest level of individualized patient care, to serve the communities and to nurture a supportive work environment where caregivers can thrive.

“We are thrilled to be expanding into the Delaware County and Philadelphia market through our transaction with Taylor Hospice,” Glick said. “We will look to build on the strong reputation and excellent care models possessed by Taylor Hospice to achieve this mission in our new markets.”

Part of the reason Taylor was looking to sell, Slenn explained, was the aging population of their workforce.

With this arrangement, he said, “You have a greater pool of people to call upon.”

Slenn said Taylor Hospice Holdings is committed to continuing operations here in Delaware County.

“Taylor Hospice is such a special collection of individuals,” he said. “We welcome the experience and wisdom of our new friends from THH and are confident they will ensure the presence of Taylor Hospice in our lives and community for another 30 years.”
