PTC Bowling Tournament set for Saturday

The Portage Trail Conference varsity bowlers conclude their season Saturday at Spins Bowl in Akron at the PTC Conference Championship tournaments.

At the conclusion of the event, tournament and overall PTC champions will be crowned.

Action gets underway at 1:10 p.m. with pre-tourney announcements and a performance by the Springfield Select Choir, which will sing the National Anthem.

Bowlers on the 20 girls and boys teams begin their quest for the championship at 1:30 p.m.

At the top of the boys division is defending champion Woodridge, which bowled its way through the competition this season with an undefeated record.

Not only were the Bulldogs undefeated, they were clobbering even the best teams by 200 to 400 pins.

Second-place Springfield was the closest to knocking off Woodridge this season, and looks for the head-to-head competition to be just what it needs to beat the Bulldogs.

A tie for second place between Springfield and Coventry and a possible three-way tie for fourth place with Crestwood, Cloverleaf and Rootstown could throw the standings in a different direction, with the tournament weighted as 50 percent of the championship.

Shane Sacher leads the Comets after tossing a 300 game this season. The Red Devils are just off an outstanding performance at a recent bowling tournament, where they finished second only to Mechanicsburg.

Garfield is back up on the top of the girls season standings, with close losses only to Springfield and Norton.

Springfield is again the bridesmaid, standing alone in second place and vying to topple the G-Men one more time this season.

Admission to the tournament is $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens age 65 and over.
