Orrville Exchange Club

Josh Hunt, an agent with Medway, gave an update on drug activity in Wayne County to Exchange Club members on Feb. 1.

Hunt, who has been a law officer in Wayne County since 1997, joined Medway as an agent in 2013. Medway began in 1974 and is one of the oldest drug task forces in Ohio.

Hunt said Wayne County is second in the state with meth and Ohio is the third highest in the nation. Meth users spiked in 2016.

Prescription drugs can be turned in to any police station in Wayne County or Wayne County Schools Career Center. In 2017, 2,352 pounds of prescribed medicine was turned in with 213 pounds turned in at the Orrville Municipal Building. This service was created to eliminate unused and older prescribed medicine in homes, often preventing break-ins for drug users.

Medway, directed by Don Hall, has a crew of five to six agents, who work with the FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency in state and federal cases. Medway is funded through a permanent levy and grants from the federal grant system.

Hunt stressed this major drug problem in Wayne County and the nation is the lack of educating our youth in the school system. "We need to get back into the schools educating our youth about drugs," he said.

In business, James Clymer, co-president, gave special thanks to Harry Fry, who donated a large sum of his major bingo win back to Exchange Club to be used for its annual scholarship program.

Sherry Gibson, guest of her husband, Brian Gibson, was welcomed.
