Mumbai: A major incident was averted on Friday night after the motor coach of a local train caught fire near Dadar station. The presence of mind of commuters, who first noticed the smoke, proved a blessing and no casualties were reported. Nonetheless, when the commuters noticed that the motor-coach was emitting smoke, all hell broke loose. It was all panic stations and the train was halted between Dadar and Parel.

“We saw smoke emanating from the coach and our eyes had also started itching. We then started shouting for help and the train was stopped,’’ a commuter recounted. Subsequently, the railway authorities and the fire brigade team rushed to the spot and assisted the stranded commuters. At least four fire tenders and four jumbo tankers had to be deployed to douse the fire.
