Mumbai: Man absconding after allegedly raping 30-year-old software engineer

In yet another case of sexual crime committed against women, a 30-year-old software engineer working in Hyderabad filed a police complaint against a 33-year-old man for allegedly raping her on the pretext of marriage. The man has been booked for rape and voyeurism and is at large.
The woman, who is from a neighbouring state, met him through a matrimonial site. He works as an advisor in a foreign company in Mumbai, reported Hindustan Times. According to the complaint filed by the woman, the man reneged on his marriage promise and threatened to circulate their intimate photos on social media sites if she told cops about this.
The victim created her profile on a popular matrimonial site a few years ago, said the Santacruz police. In October last year, she met the man, who is also from the same state. The duo started chatting on the portal and exchanged phone numbers. They decided to marry after which they were in touch on phone, an officer said. “In November, the complainant had come to Pune to meet her female friend. She called the advisor who urged her to come to Mumbai. The woman denied as she had less time and had to return to Hyderabad,” said an officer.
However, the man put pressure on her after which she took a cab to Mumbai. After reaching Mumbai late night, she was taken to a five-star hotel in Santacruz (West). The couple had dinner after which he told her that he had booked a room.
“At the room the accused forced himself on her. The complainant denied having a physical relationship till they get married, but the man coaxed her into it, saying soon they will get married. The man also took their intimate pictures. The duo returned to their work,” said the officer. The woman despite being pressured and stressed by the man filed an FIR on January 31.
