Govt mulls manpower, infrastructure for new districts

Imphal, February 02 2018: The State Government has discussed providing necessary manpower and infrastructure to the newly created districts of Jiribam, Noney, Pherzawl, Tengnoupal, Kakching, Kamjong and Kangpokpi.

Kangpokpi was created out of Senapati, Jiribam out of Imphal East, Kakching out of Thoubal, Tengnoupal out of Chandel, Kamjong out of Ukhrul, Pherzawl out of Churachandpur and Noney out of Tamenglong.

With Chief Secretary RR Rashmi in the chair, a joint meeting of the top officials of Works, Finance, Planning, Revenue and Rural Development Departments was held on January 31.The meeting discussed about providing requisite manpower and infrastructure for the seven new districts.

Construction of offices and allotment of vehicles for the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police was one primary agenda of the meeting, informed a source.

The source informed that Rs 1900 lakh has been incorporated in the revised budget estimate of the current financial year for construction of necessary infrastructure and recruitment of manpower for the newly created districts.

The revised budget estimate allocates Rs 500 lakh each for Kakching, Kamjong and Noney districts and Rs 100 lakh each for Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl and Jiribam.

The annua! budget for 2018-19 also incorporates another Rs 20,000 lakh for the new districts, added the source.
