All speculations over holding of the convocation of the Brahmapur University (BU) have ended now as Governor and Chancellor of universities Dr SC Jamir has given his consent to grace the occasion on the scheduled date, February 6.

“We have received the Governor’s consent letter though fax,” informed Registrar Shailendra Dwibedi.

It may be noted that a proposal of the university to confer D.Litt on Padmashre Ramakant Rath, KIIT founder Achyuta Samant and Nalco CMD Tapan Kumar Chand had been sent to the Governor for approval. However, intellectuals and students opposed the proposal saying that the university didn’t chose noted persons from south Odisha for the D.Litt conferment. Various forums also expressed their resentments before the Governor.

Consequently, a letter from the Governor’s office dated January 25 informed that the Chancellor has excluded the name of Nalco CMD and he would not join the convention on February 6.

Subsequently, the Convocation Management Committee and the Syndicate met and decided to request the Governor to give a date on which he would be able to attend the convocation. A letter in this regard was sent to the Governor. In response, the Governor has consented to join the scheduled convention.

The Governor’s letter has elated students who are scheduled to receive doctorate degrees during the convocation.
