Police today claimed to have busted three inter-district gangs of thieves, snatchers, drug peddlers and bootleggers by arresting their seven members separately and seizing from them stolen valuables, narcotics and illicit liquor. Phagwara superintendent of police Parminder Singh Bhandal identified those arrested as Manga, Rahul, Sonu, Majeed Ahmed alias Chand Babu, all of them from Phagwara, Mandip Singh, Manjit Singh of Hoshiarpur district and Ashok Kumar alias Sonu of local Tibbi. Stolen valuables, including 9 mobile phones, 2 cameras, 3 motorcycles, 1 TV set, 5 batteries, 240 gram intoxicating powder, 39 bottles of liquor, 1 knife, Rs 35,200 cash were seized from them, he said. Over half a dozen criminal cases were traced, he said. The arrests were made under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code related to thefts, house-trespass under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Excise Act and Arms Act, Bhandal said.
