Support Bitterroot Valley schools and enjoy some free food at the third annual chili cook-off, which is being held on Saturdays in February at Jerry Wessels Tire Center.
Robert Ramsey said that in the past two years, the event has raised $25,000 for the local schools.
“Students cook the chili and bring it here. I have everything set up for the family members and people from the community who want to stop by,” Ramsey said. “We start getting donations and at the end of the day we match every dollar up to $1,000.”
Each school from Stevensville to Darby is invited to provide a minimum of two teams, and more are welcome. Ramsey said teams come from all sorts of areas, from the athletics department to band to speech and debate.
“A few years back, we helped sent the science club all the way to New York,” Ramsey said. “We helped the softball team get new uniforms, and the tennis department in Corvallis got new rackets.”
Each week, the winner is determined by the team that raises the most money. Each weekly winner then qualifies for the final round on March 10.
