Ferrell scores 36, Garner beats Holly Springs

Garner, N.C. — Senior guard Trayvon Ferrell couldn't be stopped on Friday night.

Ferrell hit six three-point shots in the game en route to a 36-point performance as Garner defeated Holly Springs, 96-72.
Offense was not hard to come by early for either team. Ferrell his half of his three-point field goals in the first quarter, finishing the quarter with 15 points. Demetric Horton added eight points, including two treys, but Garner wasn't able to pull away early.
Holly Springs also shot the ball well in the first quarter. The Golden Hawks got a pair of three pointers from Garrett Phillips, who scored eight points in the first quarter, but Garner led 25-22.
It was in the second quarter when Garner began to pull away.
The offense didn't cool off for the Trojans in the second quarter. The team combined for five three-point baskets in the quarter, including two from Horton, as Garner outscored Holly Springs 29-17 in the quarter.
Jaren Ellerbe scored eight points in the second quarter, Ferrell added seven, and Donovan Evans and Horton each scored six points in the quarter.
Garner led Holly Springs 54-39 at halftime.
Holly Springs was able to slow Garner down some in the third quarter, but it wasn't able to make up any ground. Garner scored just 15 points in the third quarter, led by six points from Marque Maultsby, but held Holly Springs to 14 points in the quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter, Garner held a 69-53 lead and didn't look back in the fourth quarter.
Ferrell and Ellerbe got hot in the fourth quarter for the Trojans. Ferrell hit a pair of three-point baskets and added ten points to this scoring total in the fourth quarter. Ellerbe also scored ten points in the quarter, including a dunk in the final minute.
After Holly Springs connected on four attempts from three-point range in the first quarter, the Golden Hawks were held to just three made attempts from deep the rest of the game. Phillips, who led Holly Springs in scoring in the first quarter with eight points, didn't score in the final three quarters.
Ferrell's 36-point performance for Garner was a game-high. The Trojans also got 18 points from Ellerbe, 17 points from Horton and 11 points from Kenyon Burt.
Kadin Shedrick led Holly Springs in scoring with 19 points. Ak Tate added 14 points for the Hawks, while Erik Alvey posted 13 points.
