Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2018: 10 Art Installations You Simply Cannot Miss!

Now in its 20th edition, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival pays an ode to art and artists every year. The art extravaganza explodes with a riot of events and activities by organising programs under various categories including theatre, dance, music, food and more. What has remained same is the aim of promoting arts and culture. The nine-day festival that began today, February 3, will conclude on February 11. The festival is centred on a theme each year. In 2018, the theme is ‘Hara Ghoda’ that promotes a sustainable future for our planet. From — to –, the festival makes us feel that art heaven exists and it is going to stay in our Mumbai for the weekend. Skywards
Mumbai is constantly evolving and morphing at an alarming rate. Thus putting pressure on the living beings, communities and environment. The installation represents the results of our relentless dreams, houses scrambling on top of one another vying for every inch of space.

Trojan
The Trojan Horse, wooden contraption, that allowed the Greeks to put an end to the 10-year-old Trojan war. The horse was later moved to the city as a war trophy. The installation is a take on the tale of Trojan Horse that aims to recreate the experience through the emerging, abstract form of the horse.

They Surrendered
Taking into consideration the transformation of Mumbai into a concrete jungle, the art installation aims to highlight the unnoticed beauty of the trees that no longer exists.

Tree60 Degrees
The installation is created by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanrahalaya (CSMVS) that beautifully portrays the concept of urbanisation. One can see how the tree is cut and its buildings are constructed while on the other hand it is applied haldi-kumkum considering it holy.

Aparshakti

The Madhubani artworks illustrate ancient Hindu texts and mythology. The embroidery hoops that are hanged on the branches have different types of silk fabrics stretched over them. The art is done using acrylic paints using nibs and brushes.

I am That I am
The installation is made using mirrors proving the fact that life is like a mirror showing the viewer what he/she thinks of it.

Urban Tree
The tree gives you an experience of walking through a forest that merges into an urban typology. The mirror inside the installation creates a reflection of space that gets denser as you look higher creating a canopy.

Little Pockets of Hope
The installation made using seeds of different trees draws inspiration from the concept of a lifecycle. As saving trees has been the primary way to pass plants down from generation to generation.

Kalpavriksha
The wish-fulfilling tree represents different facets of Maharashtra one would love to experience as a tourist. In the installation, the tree represents Maharashtra while the branches represent beaches, cuisines, and history.

Embodying National Unity
The installation embodies our national unity. The entire installation represents India’s map while its demographics are portrayed through the water as the elements of nature.
