A PENSIONER who discovered a large pile of rubbish including an old bath dumped near a railway line has been praised for reporting it.
Geoff Gregg came across the waste while walking his dog Patch near Metal Bridge in the Ferryhill area last week. The 70-year-old quickly reported the matter to Durham County Council, and an investigation is now underway to determine who is responsible for the fly tipping.
Ian Hoult, the council’s neighbourhood protection manager, said: “We’d like to thank the resident who brought this to our attention. Although most people do the right thing and know how to get rid of waste, it’s disappointing to see there is a small minority who are reckless with our environment and act irresponsibly.
