RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> The commissioners honored retiring township Solicitor Peter Rohana at their recent meeting. He served in that post for 38 years.
A Ridley Park native and now a resident of Chester Heights, Rohana worked directly with 30 commissioners, three township managers, three engineers, two tax collectors and numerous employees during his tenure with the township. The resolution presented to Rohana by the board of commissioners extends best wishes to him and his wife, Joanne, and family. The resolution will be officially recorded in the township minutes.
A graduate of the former PMC College (now Widener University) and Temple University School of Law, Rohana is president of the Blue & Gold Club, an organization that raises funds for athletes at Widener. He has also done pro bono work for the Delaware County Bar Association for many years, something he said he plans to expand on in his retirement.
“I think everyone in the township were good people to work with,” Rohana said.
The commissioners appointed William T. Neill III as township solicitor. Neill had served as a member of the township Civil Service Commission.
Also honored with a resolution was township Engineer Charles J. Catania Jr., who will be presented on Feb. 21 with the Delaware County Chapter, Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers’ 2018 Engineer of the Year Award. He is vice president of Catania Engineering Associates Inc. , whose firm has been serving as township engineer since 1988. His resolution will also be officially recorded in the township minutes.
Catania is a graduate of Villanova University. He also provides engineering services and serves as building code official to several municipalities in Delaware County. His involvement in the community includes serving as president of Ridley United Soccer Club and as a lector at Our Lady of Peace Church. He is a member of the St. James Alumni Association and holds memberships in many professional engineering associations.
In another matter, the commissioners approved a four-year FOP contract with the police department, highlighted by 3 percent raises in each of the four years of the contract. There are 33 full-time members of the police department, including Cpt. Scott Willoughby.
