South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard held his weekly press conference Friday at the State Capitol in Pierre.
Concealed carry permits were a topic Friday.
Senate Bill 104 made it through committee this week.
It would allow nearly anyone over the age of 18 to carry a concealed weapon without a permit in South Dakota.
Daugaard vetoed a nearly identical bill last year.
Another bill would reduce the fees for an options enhanced permit to carry a concealed pistol.
Governor Daugaard doesn't seem to feel the bills are needed.
Daugaard says, It's $10 for five years. You can apply in ten minutes. And so when you compare that burden, it's very light, hence the safety that would be obtained and and is obtained through the permit process. I still believe, these proposals to do away with the permits are answers searching for a problem."
Republican Senator Lance Russell of Hot Springs, the bill's sponsor, says the measure to do away with permits has worked in other states.
