New Delhi, Feb 3: In a brazen incident of ‘honour’ killing, a 23-year-old man was killed in front of his parents allegedly by family members of his girlfriend in west Delhi on Friday. The man, identified as Ankit Saxena was stabbed and had his throat slit using a sharp weapon.
The incident took place when Saxena, a photographer by profession, was on his way to meet his girlfriend. He was caught by her family in Raghubir Nagar and a verbal spat followed. Saxena, was then kicked and punched by the girl’s father and uncle before the former stabbed him and slit his throat.
In a statement to the police, the girl said that she wanted to marry Saxena. “I was waiting for him at the Tagore Garden Metro station. Someone informed me that he had been stabbed. My father and uncle have done all this,” Saxena’s girlfriend informed.
She has also expressed fears that her uncle’s associates may kill her after which she has been provided security and sent to a shelter home.
The duo (Saxena and the girl) were in a relationship for more than two years. According to the reports, the girl’s family had also warned him to end the relationship.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Vijay Kumar, the deputy commissioner of police (west) said,“The woman’s parents opposed their relationship. In the past, the two families had tried to dissuade their children from meeting each other even though the man’s parents did not object much to their relationship.”
Police have arrested the girl’s father, uncle and mother on charges of murder. A large contingent of police was also deployed at the locality to prevent any communal clash.
